Elephant Sushi Food Truck Wrap

At first the idea of creating a food truck wrap seemed so daunting. It makes it much easier to break it all down into smaller pieces. I also tried to do it based on something I liked to eat, sushi, for example. I can tell you the more I worked on it, every day I wanted sushi for lunch. If any of you don't like sushi, I'm sorry, but I love it! It's so good and full of limitless possibilities of what it could contain. Turns out, I had so much fun creating this project.

I first started out by researching different examples of food truck wraps. Created lots of different logo ideas before finally settling on one overall theme.

In order to have a better idea of how to layout different elements on the food truck wrap, I used my top three concepts and sketched them out. I printed out black and white copies of the food truck template, and sketched out the layouts on those. I found having a visual example was really helpful in the long scheme of things. Sketches are just rough ideas. It doesn't have to be perfect or even completely understandable. It's just, like I said, a rough idea jotted down on paper, something a little more tangible and achievable.

Once I fully decided on using sushi as my concept for the food truck. I then had to fully create a new logo. I took my sketches into Illustrator and traced over them to create a digital version of my logo. But I took it one step further. I have a cousin who lived in Hong Kong for 18 months and spoke Mandarin Chinese. I reached out to her and asked her what the color schemes are for food restaurants in Hong Kong; mostly red, yellow, and blacks. I also asked her how to spell out Elephant Sushi in Chinese characters. I traced those characters and even used the recommended colors in my logo and overall concept.
